Check It Out! 6-9-10

Movies! Movies! Movies!

The IHCC Library has just put on the shelf a nice batch of new movies. Highlights include the following:

Mommo the Bogeyman --

Can a boy of nine be a big brother, a father, a mother and a luminary all at once? For young Ayse, the answer is yes. In fact, as far as she's concerned, her big brother, Ahmet, is afraid of nothing at all. But the truth is, Ahmet is a child too, and he too has his fears. Equally, it's impossible for him to know everything. Their father, Kazim, has gone off to marry another woman and abandoned the two children to their fate with Hasan, their elderly and half-crippled grandfather.

This is a widely praised film from first time Turkish director Atalay Tasdiken.

Summer Hours --

The divergent paths of three adult siblings collide when their mother, heiress to an exceptional 19th century art collection, dies suddenly.

A beautiful film from French director Olivier Assayas.

A Day At The Races --

The Marx Brothers star as Doctor Hackenbush, Tony, and Stuffy try and save Judy's farm by winning a big horse race. The doctor runs into some problems. The doctor runs a high priced clinic for the well-off who do not have a clue that he has a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

The library also just recieved four other Marx Brothers movies.

Here's a great dance scene featuring Groucho.
